How does teeth whitening at the dentist work?

Allure Dental of Hollywood uses the Zoom teeth whitening system to make your teeth up to eight shades whiter in just one in-office treatment. Dr. Valdman protects your lips and soft tissues and applies the whitening gel to your teeth.

A blue LED light combined with amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) is applied to your teeth to accelerate the whitening process, protect your enamel, and reduce sensitivity.

Can I get teeth whitening kits at home?

If you prefer, Allure Dental also offers take-home teeth-whitening trays and gel for do-it-yourself whitening treatments.

Dr. Valdman takes impressions of your mouth to create customized trays that fit perfectly over your teeth along the gumline for safety and optimum results. You can expect to see results in one to two weeks with at-home teeth whitening.

Why are my teeth discolored?

Tooth discoloration and staining can occur even if you brush and floss your teeth multiple times each day. Teeth staining causes include:

  • Poor oral hygiene
  • Smoking and tobacco use
  • Red wine, soda, coffee, or tea
  • Dark juices
  • Dark berries
  • Beets
  • Tomato-based sauces
  • Medications

Tooth discoloration is also part of the natural aging process. As we age, the enamel (outer layer of the tooth) gets thinner and allows the darker, inner layer of tooth to shine through. Routine teeth whitening at Allure Dental helps keep your teeth white and your self-confidence high.

Does teeth whitening work on all teeth?

No, which is why you should schedule an appointment with Allure Dental to determine if you are a good candidate for teeth whitening. In general, teeth whitening does not work for:

  • Brown or gray tooth discoloration
  • Teeth discolored due to medications
  • Teeth discolored due to tooth injury
  • Crowns, veneers, or fillings

You can likely whiten your teeth if you have healthy gums and your teeth have been stained by food or have turned a yellowish shade.

How can I keep my teeth white?

After teeth whitening you can take steps to help keep them white:

  • Use a straw
  • Avoid dark staining beverages and foods
  • Rinse mouth with water after eating and drinking
  • Use teeth-whitening toothpaste
  • Brush and floss twice daily

Keeping up with your twice-annual cleanings and exams can also help remove stains from teeth and keep them looking whiter, longer.
